Parris Island, South Carolina. (February 26, 2025): It seems only natural that the All-Marine Corps men’s golf team would emerge as champions on this hallowed ground. In this photo by EJ Hersom with DOD, Air Force Technical Sergeant Dalton Dishman hits a golf ball out of a sand trap during the 2025 Armed Forces Golf Championship at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot. Parris Island is legendary for all those who successfully endured its tortures to become U.S. Marines.
The four-day 72-hole medal play tournament format brought together teams from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Coast Guard, Air Force, and Space Force.
The Marines seized control of the leaderboard after the third round and fought a see-saw battle to clinch a victory on the final day. Congratulations go out to Captain Nick Brediger, 1st Lt. Benjamin Schlottman, Staff Sergeant David Banks, Captain Donald Koomar, Major David Cook, and Chief Warrant Officer 2 Zachary Selvig for their bravado performance.
The All-Army women’s team secured the gold in their team championship defeating the Marines on their home turf. A job well done to Captain Lauren Theilen, Captain Carleen Schumacher, Sergeant Hansol Koo, and Sergeant Brittany Lindesmith.
The event at the Legends Golf Course involved teams of six men and four women from each service component competing for the chance to represent America at the CISM Golf Championship in Nairobi, Kenya. There they will battle against eighteen other countries on a global stage at the Diamond Leisure Beach & Golf Resort from June 22-29.
Incidentally, the U.S. military is one of the largest operators of golf courses in the world and the services have produced some the world’s greatest golfers including Arnold Palmer (Coast Guard) and Lee Travino (Marines).
